Emotional Intelligence
Emotional Intelligence (EI) vs. IQ
IQ measures cognitive abilities (logic, problem-solving, reasoning).
EI focuses on recognizing, understanding, and managing emotions—both your own and others’.
Key Elements of EI
Most models define 3 core components.
Self-Awareness
Recognizing your emotions as they arise and understanding their impact on thoughts/behavior.
Self-Regulation
Managing impulses, staying calm under pressure, and adapting to changing circumstances.
Social Awareness (Empathy)
Understanding others’ emotions, perspectives, and needs (empathy). This includes reading social cues and responding appropriately.
